LivingWorks ASIST is the world's leading suicide intervention skills training.

ASIST is trusted by professionals, approved by the World Health Organisation and learnable by anyone, LivingWorks Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is the only workshop of its kind.

Updating continually to reflect new knowledge, LivingWorks ASIST has been training people to provide suicide first aid interventions for 40 years. 

The LivingWorks ASIST experience

  • LivingWorks ASIST is a two-day in-person workshop featuring powerful audiovisuals, discussions, and simulations.
  • You will also consider how personal and community attitudes about suicide affect someone’s openness to seek help and your ability to provide it.
  • This workshop will increase your willingness, confidence, and capacity to provide suicide first aid.

Two knowledgeable, Lifeline Canberra supportive trainers will guide you through the course, ensuring a comfortable and safe learning environment.

Course topics

This course covers the following topics:

  1. Suicide first aid approach
  2. Feelings and experiences relating to suicide
  3. Connecting: building connections, identifying invitations and asking the question
  4. Understanding: hearing the story and understanding choices
  5. Assisting: supporting safety, developing a safe plan and confirming actions
  6. Networking: support for persons at risk and community resources

Key outcomes

Participants will leave with a toolbox of skills and be competent in the following:

  • Increased awareness of suicidality
  • Recognising risk indicators and responding to meet individual safety needs
  • Provision of the ASIST Pathway to Assisting Life
  • Identifying the key elements and implementation of an effective suicide safety plan
  • Recognising other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care

Course structure

  • Delivery: face-to-face only, over two consecutive days
  • Participants: min 8, max 12 per course
  • Cost: available on request
